Painting Memories

It's been a tough spring for people who own little open sailboats like ours. We need a string of hot sunny days and it's feeling like we might be getting them - and a mess of thunderstorms as I look out my west-facing window.

Study For Flipping Fish

I was thinking about cats the other day - could have been inspired by the two cats that thump around over my head every night in the third floor apartment at 10:30PM, and then again at 3AM for round two when they apparently get their second wind.

It was cute when they were kittens. But they've gained weight - a lot of weight. I wear earplugs now. Thank heavens for earplugs.

A Reminder of Spring

I'm afraid I've let slip a promise to post a painting every week - an exercise to keep me practicing. I have been painting a lot this winter however, and am just now finishing paintings for my 2014 Peaceful Places calendar.

In the meantime, I feel like the spring has also slipped away from me or has the sun slipped by spring here in Maine?

I painted this scene to remind me that while I'm stuck inside wallowing in a cocktail of self pity and Vitamin D,  I can make up a world that suits me - one that is sunny, nourishing, peaceful and restful.  It helps. I can feel my brain again.
