I saw these two boats last summer in Carvers Harbor out on Vinalhaven Island and thought to myself, someone who lives out there year 'round really needs to make them into a holiday greeting card. It's perfect and totally the real Maine.

It's not news that the moon can have a bizarre effect on, well, everything. But this round was not something I've experienced before.
I had flu and Covid shots yesterday. One in each arm. Didn't sleep a wink last night except for an hour or two in early morning when one of those breathtakingly exhausting dreams unfold - a story board of your own making that is so vivid and believable that it has to be for real on one of those many planes out there.
I figure the two shots were a combination of adrenaline and LSD. The pharmacist made a mistake. It was a batch that was supposed to go to a clinical study in Boston. I'm still so revved up I could do ten of these sketches. But the crash is coming. It always will. It always does.

Yep, it must be a holiday week because there's a storm arriving here in New England on one of the busiest travel days of the year. Be safe folks, have a wonderful gathering and as I read somewhere recently, be sure to talk politics around your Thanksgiving table to reduce the number of gifts you'll need to give this year.

This past week has been a tough one for us here in Maine as it has been for other communities, families and friends who have suffered great loss. There's no short cutting the healing, no remedy for the pain. But there is still Love - it never goes away and there's always enough.
I had the good fortune to spend a week at an ashram one year many years ago with my brother who is a follower. It wasn't a fun vacation. It was tough. Unbeknownst to me, you go there to do your work, to flush out demons and come to understanding. A lot happened to me there - it was a profound experience on many levels and one I will never forget. But tonight I remembered probably the biggest lesson I learned and have held in my heart all of these years. When things get tough I ask "Where's Love?" And I eventually feel it. And then see it because it's always here, around all of us. That to me is magical, like a star lit full moon fall night sky in Maine.

So, I guess I'll throw in the towel here and start doing some fall sketches. Looks like we have until this weekend and then warm air starts heading back south.
Fall is one of my favorite times of the year. The drama is irresistible to those of us who are driven to and learn to thrive on it.
